Many people begin their internet marketing efforts without having any clear idea of how to proceed. Even those who do have a business background or other related skills soon find that internet marketing is not quite like anything else. Internet marketing, you will discover, is quite a bit different from anything else; the offline and online worlds each have their own rules. Selling online requires that you create landing pages and email lists, unlike the more straightforward sales techniques such as phone calls and personal interaction that you may be familiar with offline.
When it comes to internet marketing, your lifeblood is traffic; you can get free traffic or pay for it, but you can't survive without it. For example, there are many ways to advertise online, such as the various pay-per-click services offered by the search engines, but to profit from these you have to take the time to learn how to use them. While it's true that internet marketing uses some of the same underlying strategies as direct marketing, the way it's applied is different in many ways. This, sadly, sets the stage for most people who get into internet marketing to not really know what they are doing and fail at it. People often look at the gigantic scale of the internet and conclude that making money should be easy. However, this is far from true, as you are still required to put in the hard work and effort needed to build a business.
